The gasifiers is essentially a chemical reactor, where several thermo-chemical processes such as pyrolysis, combustion, and reduction take place.
Most biomass materials can be converted into a gaseous fuel knows as producer gas, which comprises carbon monoxide, hydrogen carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen. (1000-1200 Kcal/nm3) compared to natural gas has or liquefied petroleum gas, but can be burnt with high efficiency and good degree of control without emitting smoke. The producer gas flame temperature can be as high as 1100 0C. Each kilogram of air dry biomass (10% moisture control) yields about 2.5nm3 of producer gas. In energy terms, the conversion of efficiency of the gasification process is in the range of 80%-90%. Usage of gasifiers instead of conventional direct burning devices will lead to savings of a minimum of 50% fuel cost.
For thermal applications, the technology has been well proven and gasifiers systems are already working in the field. The capacity installed so far covers a wide range of application at different capacities.
